ST 18: The Novelty of the 2019 Catalog

New action, new stock, and a fresh design for this stunning tactical rifle. The ST 18 Tactical rifle is a versatile weapon designed for shooting on the range, long-distance shooting competitions, dynamic and tactical shooting, and even hunting.

A Tactical Rifle Equipped with a Brand-New Bolt Action

The new action is the result of collaboration between SABATTI and the renowned BCM, a world leader in competition rifle production. The two companies joined forces in 2017 to design a brand-new action with competition and tactical applications in mind. Unlike many other products that adapt hunting actions for sports use, the ST-18 features a dedicated competition and tactical action, offering improved accuracy, durability, and resistance.

The frame is machined from bars of high-strength steel alloy, heat-treated for durability. The 3-lug locking bolt, designed for a fast 60-degree opening, comes with an interchangeable handle with a 5/16” thread.

Once machined, the bolt is heat-treated, ground, and chrome-plated. The highly polished contact surfaces reduce friction and operational noise, a quality few top-tier products can offer.

The high-strength steel used in the magazine and bolt guarantees maximum surface resistance with a “strong” core, eliminating risks of deformation, fragility, and breakage. The frame-to-chassis fit has been carefully designed, as SABATTI understands that many accuracy issues stem from an improper fit of these parts.

To avoid unnecessary tensions and stresses, SABATTI has introduced a new, revolutionary fitting system. Here, the frame and chassis do not touch but are connected through a V-shaped piece that also functions as a recoil lug, along with a rear semicircular disk.

This design allows the action to “float” on the chassis, eliminating potential tensions. For enhanced reliability and safety, SABATTI has also introduced a new guillotine-style extraction system that provides full support to the cartridge base.

When the locking bolt is closed, the extractor cannot move backward, even if the base expands under pressure, greatly improving safety. This new action minimizes (though does not fully eliminate) damage caused by firing ammunition at uncontrolled pressures.

The ST 18 Stock

The new chassis is machined from a solid block of Ergal 55 on advanced CNC machines. It houses an AICS-compatible magazine with an extremely functional release. The rear attachment of the stock is M4 compatible, and the front houses the tubular forearm.

In the front and rear portions of the inletting, you’ll find slots for the steel supports of the magazine box. The chassis is the defining feature of the ST-18—a rifle that stands out with its modern, refined, and highly functional design.

SABATTI has chosen PPS (Ryton), the best technopolymer on the market, for the ST18 Tactical Rifle’s butt stock. This polymer, heavily reinforced with metallic powders, is extremely durable, temperature-stable, and pleasant to the touch. The carefully designed lines of the butt stock make it comfortable and quick to mount.

The 4 quick-connect inserts for the strap make this stock perfect for dynamic shooting competitions. The cheek piece adjustment is fast and intuitive, and each rifle comes with a spacer to adjust the length of pull (LOP).

This system is quick to adjust yet solid, making transport easy. The tubular forearm, cut and turned from an aluminum profile extrusion, features a modern and captivating look. It can also be fitted with all available accessories on the market, thanks to several K-mode anchor points cut into the profile.

The MRR Barrels

All barrels, available in either 510 mm or 610 mm with a diameter of 22 mm at the muzzle, feature the Multi-Radial Rifling (MRR®) system, designed, engineered, and made exclusively by SABATTI.

Multi-radial barrels replace standard rifling with two alternating radii that only slightly deform the bullet geometry without cutting it, thereby avoiding unnecessary stress to the bullet.

All the benefits of this rifling system are possible thanks to the tight tolerances SABATTI can achieve in their cold hammer forging process. Our highly demanding shooters can further improve the accuracy of the multi-radial barrels using abrasive paste and pads to lap the bores without risking damage to the rifling edges.

At a Glance

  • Velocity is higher than with traditional rifling.
  • Group concentration is substantially improved.
  • Number of fliers is drastically reduced.
  • Cleaning is less frequent and easier.
  • Barrels are more durable.
